Introduction
Music connects us through time and gives us a sense of belonging, it can be used to motivate and sooth us. At The Pilgrim School we recognise the power and resonance that music has throughout our lives and aim to develop a love of music for our students.
Our Music programme recognises the effect that music can have on students and we aim to deliver an exciting and energising curriculum for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students. Our Music Department is not restricted to the classroom, we provide a plethora of opportunities for our students to develop their musical skills including external workshops and visits to recording studios.
Just by introducing the concept in the lessons you could be unearthing a talent that warms hearts for years to come and this works hand in hand with our Hope curriculum. Through incorporating knowledge of the music business and taking inspiration from successful musicians and artists, it can give our students Hope and believe that anything is possible! Creativity can encourage a space for personal interpretation and a healthy culture of both challenge and peer feedback which give our students the tools for democracy and mutual respect, fundamental British Values.
Goal
Our line of sight and scheme of work cover all the content within the national curriculum and builds skills to follow through to Key Stage 4 for those who select it as an option subject.

Pathways
For Key Stage 3, we have worked hard to tailor a scheme of work which is accessible for our students and sits within the national curriculum for music. This scheme has been split into 6 units per year over a 2-year period. Each of these units incorporate essential knowledge for success whilst ensuring all topics are fun, engaging and accessible in our setting.
For our Key Stage 4 students, 2024 will see the introduction of the Rockschool vocational programme. These are engaging Vocational Qualifications that reflect the changing demands of the creative industries, with an ongoing commitment to motivate and support learners. With the opportunity to study music technology or performance, this course gives students the essential toolkit to take their love of music and transform it into a career.
