Maths Department

Steve L - Head of Department

On completion of my Biology degree, I left the University in Manchester to move back to Lincolnshire. Jobs in the field of Biology were hard to come by and after doing various jobs, which included factory hand, shop worker and greens keeper I found an agency job as a Science Technician. This took me away to Hull, Cambridge, Suffolk, Norfolk and London where I worked in various settings. These included the School of Tropical medicine in London and Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. I eventually settled in London for 10 years where I stayed at University College London analysing DNA and conducting scientific trials.

After this period, I felt that a change was due so finally underwent my teacher training at Goldsmiths University before gaining employment in North London. London Teaching was challenging and varied but for family reasons I eventually moved back to Lincolnshire and looked forward to the challenges there. I was lucky enough to have a job interview with The Pilgrim School and immediately felt that the ethos and outlook of the School were what I was looking for. I wanted to support these young people. I also found a community of staff who felt the same. After 11 years, the work is still challenging, fun and varied. I am proud to be a member of The Pilgrim community.

Elena

My journey at The Pilgrim School has taken me from Teaching Assistant to Teacher, SENDCo, and now a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Throughout this time, I have always kept pupils’ individual needs at the heart of my work. After completing my degree in Psychology at the University of York, I qualified as a teacher and now teach both Maths and Psychology—two subjects I have enjoyed since first being introduced to them.

In 2022, I completed my NASENDCo qualification and then became the school’s SENDCo, a role that allows me to support pupils and their families in accessing the right support, at the right place, at the right time. This work has strengthened my passion for inclusive education and my commitment to ensuring every pupil has the chance to thrive, both academically and personally.

Working at The Pilgrim School is incredibly rewarding. It gives me the opportunity to help pupils learn and grow in all areas of life, while being part of a supportive and dedicated team who always put pupils first. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, I am also committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for both pupils and staff, ensuring everyone can succeed.

I look forward to continuing to serve our school community in the years ahead.

Jacky

I joined Pilgrim in 2015 and completed my teacher training to become a teacher of Maths.

Currently, I work part-time teaching Maths, Vocational Studies and Health and Social Care. I work across two bases currently - Lincoln and Baumber, teaching KS4 students.

Scott

Hi, I'm Scott and I have worked at the pilgrim School since 2017. I was here previously before my teacher training.

Originally, I was a Learning Mentor but now I am a teacher of Maths and Technology, sometimes even Science! Before teaching I got my degree in Motorsport and Motorcycle Engineering.

I love how, at Pilgrim, everyone can be themselves and are supportive to each other, pupils and staff.

Outside of school I am a competitive Cheerleader. I have been lucky enough to compete at the World Championships and was part of the first adaptive abilities team, a team that contains both disabled and non-disabled athletes. I also sometimes compete in Rubik's cubes competitions with my current best solve being 13.49 seconds ðŸ™‚
